Carbon fiber is a popular option to replace woods and metals by using stronger plastics. The carbon fiber-reinforced polymer is light and strong and has a similar to its tensile strength. As with every manufacturing material there are both different ways to work with carbon fiber. Many of the tips in this article will be familiar to seasoned fabricators. But if you are new to the carbon fiber game the four points given here are especially essential. Knowing how to use carbon fiber is just as important as designing the pieces you are hoping to build. 1. Take care The composite parts manufacturing, are strong and durable. But, they are susceptible to being damaged if handled improperly. We recommend that customers take care when handling their products. For instance carbon fiber fabric needs to be stored in the original container until you're ready to use it. If you don't use all of the fabric in one time, put what you do not intend to use back into the original packaging. The idea here is to make sure that the material is kept clean. If you allow it to get dirty, fabricating will be more difficult. Similar to that keeping dry fabric and panels in their packaging eliminates the risk of loose fibers flying around. Reduce loose fibers at a minimum. 2. Practice Proper Storage Techniques Carbon fiber materials must be stored in a specific manner. It is crucial to avoid drying dry materials under direct sun. Storage areas that are cool and dark are ideal for dry materials. If you are working with prepregs, it is important that you follow the storage instructions that are printed on the package. Prepregs are carbon fibre fabric which have been treated with epoxy resin before they leave the factory. They should be kept in a cold environment to ensure the longest shelf life. They should be stored in cold storage until the time you're ready to begin an actual layup. The resin will start to act when left to warm up. 3. Personal Protective Equipment for personal use Personal protective equipment is essential when you're actually fabricating or laying carbon fiber materials. The type of equipment you require is contingent on the work you're working on. For instance, if are performing a manual layup that requires eyes protection and nitrile gloves at the minimum. Masks are also recommended. Make sure you have sufficient ventilation to ensure you don't get overrun by fumes. Cutting or machining carbon fiber pieces calls for protective eyewear, heavy duty gloves for work, as well as masks. The use of apron and smock will help prevent loose fibers from entering your clothing. 4. Clean up after You'll want to wash yourself after handling carbon fiber parts manufacturing. We advise against just brushing fibers and dusting off your skin since this could cause small pieces to become embedded. Warm water and soap are better choices to clean the particles. In the event you accidentally receive a patch of the substance on your skin do not try to peel it off. Instead, use a towel or cotton swap to soak the area in vinegar. The vinegar will soften the resin and allow it to be easier to clean off. Acetate also works well.
